My Autism – Introduction

My Autism is a gift!

When I was diagnosed with Klinefelter’s Syndrome I quickly realised that the only way I was going to manage this condition was to know more about it than the so called experts that were treating me for it, so I lived, breathed and researched countless websites and spoke to a multitude of experts on Klinefelter’s to provide as much information to my audience as possible.

Autism however comes with a wealth of information, research, case studies and first hand testimonials from Autistic people both male, female, young and old.

So for me writing about my autism took a back seat, as I had no idea the impact the diagnosis was going to have on my life, what direction my life was going to go, how my autism would impact me with my KS, where my KS ended and my autism started and vice versa.

So here goes …

My actual journey with Autism, I would say started around the age of 9 but my diagnosis of Autism did not happen until 2 years after my Klinefelter’s Diagnosis at the age 52, commonly known as a late diagnosis of Autism (… and there have been a lot of late diagnosis autistic cases in the last few years, especially where it’s been missed by GP’s and specialists over the last 40+ years).

Over the next few posts I’m going to explain, in as much detail as I can how my Autism affected me pre-diagnosis and how it affects me now post diagnosis. I will cover areas such as the comorbidity, support and non-support that I have, relationships, employment, law enforcement, misconceptions that people have, sex and happiness.
